How to Make Homemade Ice Cream Without an Ice Cream Maker
Anyone else out there trying to live a sugar-free lifestyle? No? Just me? Well then, to add challenge upon challenge, I was offered an assignment from Build-a-Bear Workshop to craft a few homemade ice cream recipes without an ice cream machine. The hard part wasn't writing the article. It was creating these culinary masterpieces (to photograph) without devouring them in a single sitting.
Would I do it?
Sure thing, sugar lips.
I knew readers wanted the info - things like subbing creamy avocado to replace milk fat, the salt-that-doesn't-touch-the-ice-cream trick, and of course, the super clickable photos that elicit a smile, no matter who you are or what silly sugar-free diet you happen to espouse. Knowing parents would benefit was worth the agony of working with sweets.
And of course, a few outtakes of our family's photo session as we worked:
Are you excited to see the final product? I'm delighted to share it with you. Here's the published article on homemade ice cream recipes. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed crafting it.
P.S. - If I could offer a bit of advice to other freelance writers, it would would be to find a place with lots of light for food photos. I feared my homemade recipes would taste beautiful but look disgusting. After all, ice cream can look really yuck on screen. Thankfully they turned out great, because I took the images outside with a dish towel to snap some photos.
